No threat to CPEC from Nawaz Sharif’s ouster: Elahi

ISLAMABAD: Former Chief Minister Minister Punjab Pervaiz Elahi has said that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor would not be affected by the ouster of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) leader, while speaking to a delegation, said that the CPEC is not an agreement with Nawaz Sharif but between China and Pakistan.

He also said that the Pakistan Army would protect and safeguard the project, and there was no threat to it from anyone.

He said that the government was given an impression as if the CPEC would be in jeopardy if Nawaz Sharif was ousted. In fact, he said, the CPEC will be more transparent and reach its conclusion without them.

He also said that the real threat was not to CPEC but the government of Nawaz Sharif. Therefore, he said that Sharif was given an impression that the project would be halted without him.

Elahi has previously voiced his support behind the protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on 2nd November.
