Sethi says it’s players discretion to celebrate the way they want

KARACHI: After torrent of tweets mocking the ruling party legislator for objecting to ‘celebratory push-ups’ by Pakistan team players, Chairman of PCB’s executive committee Najam Sethi took to the Twitter to clarify that players can rejoice victory the way they want.

In his couple of tweets, Mr. Sethi said it was players’ discretion to do push-ups, sajda (prostrate) or anything to celebrate a triumph.

He said the Pakistan Cricket Board appreciated the training facilities by Pakistan Army, which had been utilized thrice in last six years (by the team).

Earlier in the day, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination objected to press-ups performed by the Pakistan team players after victory and even asked ‘whom did the players were giving message with those push-ups.”

Rana Muhammad Afzal of the NA committee raised quite an unusual objection, saying players did push-ups after the triumph and remained silent after the defeat. “What’s actually the matter,” he asked.

He also said it would have been better had the players offered ‘nafil prayers’ rather than doing push-ups.
