Imran insists on PM’s accountability without derailment of democracy

Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan says he party wants the accountability of prime minister in Panama Papers scandal without any harm to democracy, ARY News reported.

Speaking to media here, Khan said elections take place in Pakistan, “but monarchy is ruling the roost.”

He said independent judiciary was key to action against corruption in the country.

He said his struggles were not aimed at making it to the PM’s coveted slot. Khan said Panama Papers were proofs, not the allegations. “The PM has been caught red-handed in the Panamagate scandal.”

He cited democratic protest in Ireland that forced their prime minister to tender resignation. “This is what real democracies are,” he said.

The PTI chief reiterated that whenever the prime minister indulged in corruption, it led to destruction of state institutions.
